27|09|11 +++ KSP Mauritius One Eye
The KSP World Tour at One Eye Pro in Mauritius is the first of three World Championship Wave Riding Tour stops. Beside the pro riders 4 Mauritian locals had the chance to get a Wild Card to participate in the competition. Ninja Bichler, Mauritian local and originally from Germany, got one of these cards, which already was really exiting for her and the whole Club Mistral & Skyriders team. In the beginning of the 6 days Ninja was the “unknown local from Germany” which changes pretty fast…
Ninja Bichler, 29 years old, is a club mistral team member since 12 years and made her home at Club Mistral & Skyriders in Mauritius 4 years ago. Yola Bichler, her Mother is the owner of Club Mistral & Skyriders at 17 windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUP and surfing destinations worldwide. Club Mistral & Skyriders also supported this event as a co sponsor and co organizer of the KSP World Tour at One Eye.
Already after the first ride every one was really surprised of the “local” Ninja Bichler, who caught some incredible waves and used her local knowledge to ride better than some of the men. On the second day of the Event and the first day of riding she won the Women’s Expression Session.
On day 3 Ninja Bichler caught 12 waves during her 15-minute heat and scored a remarkable 18.1 for seamlessly linking big arching turns, big hits under the lip, long rides and even some switchstance surfing.
On day 5 conditions were getting harder as the waves were huge and the wind very strong. Ninja Bichler, standing out from the rest of the women, rode the triple-overhead waves top to bottom.
Riding 11 waves and scored an 8 on a set wave. Later that day Ninja Bichler faced Steph Bridge at the Semi Finals where she rode some mind-blowing waves. As the surf jacked up to 20-foot faces, and the Coast Guard rescue boat disappeared deep into the trough, Ninja was picking off set wave after set wave and scored a 9.6 on one bomb, securing her a place in the finals against Marie Gautron from France.

On the last day, with a fairytale ending, women’s kite surfing concluded with the unsponsored KSP Wild Card winner Ninja Bichler, taking home the 2011 One Eye Pro title as she faced off with Marie Gautron. Reaching the 15-wave limit, she left no set wave unslayed while scoring a 17.16 in her first ever final. We are proud of Ninja and wish her all the best for future!
