The spot on Sal
The bay of Santa Maria is located on the southern tip of the island Sal and the long, fine-grained sandy beach extends over more than 4 kilometres. Thanks to their position within the winter trade-wind belt, the Cape Verde islands boast perfect wind and wave conditions from November until May.

The spot is unbelievably varied: in front of the center the water is a little choppy with a slight shorebreak. The team is always happy to help you carrying your material into and out of the water to ensure that you pass the shorebreak without any problems. If you sail past the jetty on the left hand side of the center you will enter the Santa Maria speed track where you can blast away to your heart's content or gybe through the turquoise water. Further out there is a nice swell for wave novices.

Wind and waves
The cross-offshore or sideshore wind from the left enables effortless upwind sailing to the various sections of the beach. From the Club Mistral center you can sail directly from the flat water section into two fantastic wave spots: both Ponta Leme upwind and Ponta Sino downwind offer you every opportunity to let off steam in the waves. We organise daily trips to Ponta Sino with one of our team members. On top of that, the Club Mistral center offers windsurfing excursions to other spots on the island for all wave freaks, such as Rife and Canoa. The best wave conditions are between December and April.

The centers
Our center Club Mistral & Skyriders Santa Maria is located right on the beautiful beach of Santa Maria. With the finest sandy beaches and boundless space, we can proudly say that we have by far the best location in the bay. Here, you will find all kinds of amenities, ranging from ample space, a boutique, showers and WC’s and the Atlantis Restaurant with a bar nearby. Next to this is a café offering internet and ice cream, and the town Santa Maria is within 5 minutes walking distance along the beach promenade.

The center Club Mistral Ponta Leme is situated on the east coast of the island of Sal and is about 10 – 15 minutes walk from the main Club Mistral station. The center is situated directly in front of the Hotel Sab Sab. Direct access to a long and shallow launch area makes the place very special indeed, and the wind blows side-offshore from the left. Windsurfing further out (about 400 m) in the direction of Cape Leme, you will find gentle non-breaking waves which are perfect for your first wave riding  attempts. The spot is suited for advanced windsurfers from water start level upwards as the launch is a bit more difficult than in the main bay of Santa Maria, owing to a few stones and a higher shore break at times. At Club Mistral Ponta Leme only windsurf rental and tuition are on offer. Kitesurf rental, lessons and storage will only be offered at the main Club Mistral center at Santa Maria as the spot at Club Mistral Ponta Leme is not suitable for kitesurfers.

Kids
Kids tution in Sal is not very easy during the winter season as the sea can be pretty rough. When the conditions are "normal", we can offer kids tuition on a wide, sandy beach without any rocks and sideshore wind from the left.
