WINDSURFING HOLIDAYS 2008

Deutsch | English | Turkish

Cabarete, Caribbean

Cabarete offers spots for all skill levels in all seasons. From beginners to experts, all kitesurfers will find ideal conditions in Cabarete. The spot's diversity is unique and does not leave any wishes unfulfilled, from flat to choppy water, from swell to breakers. The wind starts out with slight breeze in the morning and increases to average wind forces of 4-6 bft. in the afternoon. We mostly fly 12-16 square metre kites in winter and 9-14 square metre kites in summer. To ensure that kitesurfers and windsurfers do not get into each other's way, there are various kitesurfing zone as well as a dedicated windsurfing zone.

Our Skyriders centre in Cabarete is mobile. This means that we select the most suitable spot, depending on the prevailing wind and wave conditions and kitesurfers' personal requirements. This allows us to guarantee the ultimate fun for kiters of all skill levels.

The following four spots are in the immediate vicinity of our centre:

The closest spot, La Policia, is a three-minute walk upwind of our Skyriders centre. Here we instruct beginners in their first flight training on the beach.

In Pozo Beach (the world cup spot), which is situated leeward of Cabarete Bay, the wind is side-onshore with flat to choppy water. A shorebreak can develop in winter.

At the offshore reef (about 800 m), you will also find breakers. Pozo downunder is leeward of Pozo Beach. This spot is an ideal alternative to Pozo Beach when the shorebreak is too high or the wind blows onshore or offshore in the bay of Cabarete.

Kitebeach is in the neighbouring bay in the direction of Sosua. Here, too, the wind blows side-onshore and the water is flat. A reef wave can be found farther offshore (400 m). It is about 25 minutes on foot and some 5 minutes by car to the kitesurfing beach.

Cabarete offers suitable spots for all tastes and conditions. This is also the reason why this spot is the gathering place for such a large kitesurfing community and the Kitesurfing World Cup is held here every June.

Nevertheless, it would be a shame to come to Cabarete for kitesurfing only. The nightlife and the surroundings alone are worth a trip.
