Egypt with children

Daniel and I went to Egypt with our children (1 and 4 years old) from 10 - 20 April 2009. We took an overnight flight from Munich to Kairo, which was very comfortable, as both children did not only sleep through the flight, but also during the 2 hours transfer from Kairo to Ras Sudr.
Around 7 a.m. we arrived at the Hotel Ramada Ras Sudr, where we went straight to breakfast. It was fine so far, however, the coffee didn't taste very good and freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals and a larger fruit selection would have been nice.
As the hotel just refurbished some rooms there was some dirt and rubble here and there in the hotel area. We had a suite with a separate bedroom and the kids could sleep in an additional bed in the living room. Unfortunately they didn't have cribs at that time, they will, however, be available in the future.
The beach in Ras Sudr and the kite and windsurfing conditions are just perfect. I have rarely seen so much space on a beach before. The great thing in Ras Sudr is that there is no mass tourism. Everything is very original and unspoiled and most of the people that come here are passionate kitesufers and windsurfers.
The spot is perfectly suitable for all levels from beginners to experts, and the large shallow water area ist very convenient for both kiters and windsurfers. The wind normally blows sideshore (however, we had onshore wind, which is not very common) and enriches the spot with a nice wave!
We really enjoyed the time at the large center with a comfortable chill out area and nearby beach bar. The beach bar has been modernised and got its own kitchen recently so that there won't be long waiting times for pizza, snacks and drinks anymore.
The well-equipped center offers sufficient material – in separate areas for windsurfers and kitesurfers – a fashion shop, a changing room, showers and WC.
The dinner at the hotel was good and the menu offerings varied every evening. The pasta buffet was always open, so if you didn’t like the daily offerings, you could always help yourself there.
The rooms and facilities in the Hotel Ras Sudr Green, which is about 20 walking minutes away, are at the moment definitely a bit more comfortable – those who want to enjoy a bit more luxury should stay there. In front of the Hotel Green there is another kite center.
Conclusion: Ras Sudr is the perfect destination for passionate windsurfers and kitesufers, whose first priority is not luxury and a great hotel. Those who want to bring their kids shouldn't be too picky – they will definitely love the beach!

After 5 days we took a transfer bus to Dahab. The drive went along the coast and after about 4 hours we arrived in Dahab.
We stayed in the 5 star hotel Le Meridien and enjoyed pure luxury! The welcome and check in were already a perfect service. We had booked a deluxe room consisting of one room, a bathroom and a small patio with outside shower. Crib and additional bed were available and we had sufficient space for four people. Those who would like to have a separate bedroom can book rooms with a connecting door.
Although it is a 5 star hotel, the atmosphere is very relaxed and we felt very comfortable there, even with small children. The very friendly staff and a delicious cuisine made the service perfect.
A large pool area with a heated pool was ideal especially for the kids. Furthermore they have a mini club with playground, a shadowy sandbox and a playing room. Although there is a supervisor in the mini club, you shouldn’t leave your kids there unattended.
The windsurfing center is perfectly located and thanks to the sideshore wind it is possible to start directly from the beach. You can windsurf barefoot, but for those of you who are sensitive I recommend wearing shoes.
Of course I had a look at the other hotels and our other windsurfing center in the lagoon in front of the Hilton Hotel. The lagoon is often very crowded when everybody wants to go on the water during wind hours, so I was quite happy about the great spot at the Le Meridien outside the lagoon.
The Hilton Hotel with its large area and the big water lagoon is definitely the most appealing. The rooms are also very spacious and besides the main restaurant there are two a la carte restaurants. I also liked the superior rooms in the Coralia Hotel, which is located just behind the Club Mistral Center.
The Swiss Inn provides a good alternative, as it offers nice rooms, good service and good food for fair prices.
CONCLUSION: Those who wish for a perfect spot with an exclusive hotel should stay in the Le Meridien!
Those who want to be in the thick of it should choose a hotel in the lagoon of Dahab.
