This year, the kite league started again in April and has become the best  known contest amongst kite-surfers. This amateur competition takes place three times a year. The Mauritian kite-surfers all gather in the grounds of the Indian Resort Hotel at our kite-surfing spot. Of course there are a lot of competitors who really rip but you can still take part as a semi - pro. The atmosphere amongst the spectators is also fantastic…

Club Mistral, Skyriders, North Kiteboarding, Habit and the Indian Resort Hotel sponsor the two day event with great prizes. Club Mistral also takes care of the safety aspect of the contest.

The first day is all about the best tricks and the biggest jumps, although a fluid and elegant style can also be a hit with the judges. The freestyle event takes place directly in front of the Club Mistral station. The second day is all about speed: the contestants have to race from the Indian Resort Mauritius to Le Morne and back - it takes some careful calculations and some deliberation to decide upon the winners.

This year's contest took place at the same time as our Centre Manager seminar so a few of our party promptly signed up to the contest: representing the girls were Moni and Ninja from the head office in Weilheim, gaining first and second place. The heat was on the men as the competition was far greater and stronger - but they fought hard. A lot of fun, supported by professional organisation, makes this event the highlight of the start of the year in Mauritius.

As previously mentioned, any one can take part. So who knows…maybe you're next…?
