North Sails

 

The aggressive EGO is a completely new type of Wave sail. The EGO is the ultimate Wave sail for innovative riders! After almost 10 years, a completely new product will replace the eternal classic, the VOODOO. The newly developed BALANCED.LUFF.LENGTH, a precisely balanced ratio of luff length to boom length. As short and compact as possible for radical handling and as long as necessary for a decent twist, ensuring a maximum wind range. In order to achieve sensible sizes, Kai Hopf, the sails designer, uses the proven NORTH SAILS CROSS.BATTEN.CONCEPT in combination with the new CLEW.CUTAWAY, reaping real benefits for handling. When it comes to the number of battens, Kai is rather conservative, since good high end control and a wide wind-range still demand 5 battens. Of course, similar to the VOODOO, the EGO was designed as a hardcore sail.

 

A World Cup Wave sail must have the potential to get the maximum out of every situation, because only victory counts. This is why the new ICE works even under the most different conditions, developing maximum performance even under critical circumstances. This is achieved, among others, through an optimized profile, a slightly set back centre of effort, and a reduced sail foil tension. Extremely aggressive and - thanks to the optimized foot profile - a true handling miracle, especially when descending the wave: this is how our team describes this radical 5-batten power engine. Everyone is impressed by the performance and the lightning-fast reaction of the ICE, which is totally independent from one’s own body weight.

 

Only in rare occasions such physically different windsurfers became so intensively involved in the development of a single sail as was the case with Björn Dunkerbeck, Gollito, and André Paskowski. After all, however, no other sail can cover the entire range from wave to flatwater Freestyle as perfectly as the new DUKE. Basically, the requirements for a Power Wave and a Freestyle sail are very similar: great planning potential combined with maximum handling and good controllability. Up to a size of 5.4m², the DUKE was therefore designed as a powerful Wave sail according to Björn’s specifications. For sizes 5.9m² and above, Kai Hopf improved the new DUKE strictly according to the specifications of our Freestyle World Champion Jose “Gollito” Perez and EFPT Champion André Paskowsky.

 

NATURAL is dead – long live the NATURAL! The most versatile sail in our range was redesigned from scratch to provide a powerful and easily manageable allrounder for all those who don’t want to deal with techniques and trimming. The new NATURAL hasn’t lost any of the positive properties of its predecessor and several-times test winner. On the contrary, its magnificent handling and balanced performance were improved and are now easier to unleash. The PROGRESSIVE.BATTEN.CONFIGURATION is still characteristic of the outstandingly balanced range of NATURAL. As a result, the focus for sizes up to 6.6m2 is still on handling and pressure point stability, which explains why only 5 battens are installed. At 7.0m2 and above, the design focuses on planning and Kai Hopf once again concentrates on simple rig control and handling. Both versions offer excellent control, a high level of comfort, and plenty of planning power, creating the perfect synthesis of speed, acceleration, and handling.

 

The ultimate NoCam performance sail, whose relatively high sail foil tension guarantees maximum performance even without camber support. Compared to the previous model, it has improved planning without compromising any control when getting over-powered. This makes it even more versatile, since it combines spontaneous performance delivery with top speed, also offering the handling and rigging advantages of NoCam sails. This translates into enormous thrust AND the particular ease of a NoCam sail for relaxed manoeuvres.

 

The DRIVE.LIGHT and SUPERLIGHT models in iMODULAR.DESIGN are two ultralight Crossover sails for a wide range of applications. Their balanced shape and very low weight caters in particular to the group of entry-level and ambitious riders. Both sails facilitate the step to the next skill level, while assisting the rider in learning new manoeuvres. The DRIVE.FIRST was specially designed for children. There are five sizes with an individual batten arrangement, which focus on children‘s ergonomic needs and physical power, that is, a high-quality, powerful material that lets children have real fun and positive rewards with windsurfing from the very first moment. Moreover, special mast/boom components were developed for DRIVE.SUPERLIGHT and DRIVE.FIRST. Therefore, both models are also available as complete rigs!

 

The RAM F9 is the younger brother of World Cup WARP F2008! Although it corresponds over 90% to the fastest WARP we ever built, it has its own distinct character, bringing benefits for most pilots. When we improved the model for 2009, we focused on two aspects: The improvement of its handling despite extreme racing characteristics, and the optimization of propulsion across the entire range of applications. With one batten less, a marginally slimmer mast pocket, and a slightly reduced sail foil tension, the RAM F9 requires less effort to control compared to the WARP 2008. In addition, the brand new CUTAWAY.CLEW outhaul has an extremely positive impact on handling.
