Name : Luca Mastalli
Born : 1970
Team member since : 2004
Prior Club Mistral Destinations : Gargano, Golf de Roses
Luca is an Italian and hails from Lake Como. He can look back on 15 years of experience in the windsurfing sector and there are probably very few people around who have windsurfed at more spots than Luca.
In 2003 he decided to leave the windsurfing business and settle down in Italy. It wasn't long, however, before he returned to his 'great love' – first of all in Italy, where he managed Club Mistral's former centre in the Gargano in summer 2004.
After a rather wind-less summer season there, he moved on to the Cape Verdean island of Sal, where he is now spending his second successful season managing the Club Mistral centre in Santa Maria. Admittedly, Luca was no stranger to Cape Verde, having already spent some time on Sal before. However, it was not until his third stay that he felt really at home and acclimatized. It is now even rumoured that Luca would like to settle down permanently in Cape Verde.
Apart from his great love, i.e. windsurfing, Luca has also become a keen kitesurfer. There are quite a few days on Sal when he is spoilt for choice and has to choose between going out on the water with waveboard and sail or with his kitesurfing gear instead. In autumn 2005, Luca obtained his IKO Kitesurfer's Licence in the Golf de Roses.
This is also to the benefit of our guests. They prefer to receive their kitesurfing instruction in their native language and Luca has an absolute talent for languages. Apart from Italian (his native language), he speaks fluent English, Spanish, French and also German (somewhat reluctantly, to be sure) and, since taking up the job of Centre Manager in Cape Verde, has added Portuguese and Creole (Cape Verdean dialect) to the list.
Luca is very popular with the team and his guests. He is a friendly, well-balanced person and is seldom ruffled. However, one should not underestimate the sense of humour lurking beneath his quiet, calm exterior. He still keeps up his former hobby, ice hockey (which he played for 10 years), and is still an absolute champ – admittedly only on the computer. Luca has discovered a new hobby: a Californian bicycle, known and admired by all of Santa Maria's inhabitants, for which he regularly orders spare parts and accessories to embellish it.
Luca, we are very pleased that you like Sal so much and would like to thank you for your magnificent work as Centre Manager. Of course we hope you will stay with Club Mistral for a long time to come and wish you all the best!
Your Club Mistral Team
