Our Team Member of the Month is Federico Caloro! He has worked with Club Mistral for 2 years and is currently our center manager at Dahab Hilton.



Federico is the typical friendly, always smiling stereotype of an Italian watersports man – constantly talking with his hands and always full power!  He started windsurfing as a young kid and soon decided that this was what he wanted to do. During the holidays he worked at different windsurfing centers. After he graduated he started to study and work for Ducati … his second biggest passion is motorcycles. Fortunately life in the office with a suit and tie didn’t really fit his expectations of the perfect lifestyle and so he decided to stay true to his windsurfing passion and left Italy to work in Hurghada at a big windsurf center.

In July 2009 we received his emergency application as after some years in Hurghada he was in an urgent need for a change. The low season had just started and there were no vacancies in our teams at that time. However, two weeks later an opportunity arose as we had to replace an instructor who left unexpectedly. So in very short time Federico left Egypt and went to Tarifa, where he arrived in the peak of the high season. To his advantage he was not only a certified windsurf instructor, but also a good kitesurfer having recently received his instructor diploma, and this made him flexible in every aspect.

After Tarifa we received a lot of positive feedback about him and so it was time to move onto El Yaque to join our team there. His motivation to make everybody happy and satisfied and his ability to be attentive and interested to talk to everybody made him popular within all our teams and guests. He loves to be on the water and spends his days off exploring new spots for kiting, windsurfing, surfing or SUPing. 

After El Yaque he returned to Tarifa for the summer and we started to consider making him a centre manager for the windsurf division in EL Yaque. However, just when the high season in Spain had finished he had a bad crash on his motorbike. Doctors told him he should not do any sport for a couple of months, and so El Yaque was sadly not an option for him anymore. Being such a positive person he recovered faster than expected and as luck would have it (for him and for Club Mistral), suddenly there was a job vacancy in El Yaque once again and we needed somebody urgently.

In summer 2011 the plan was to send him to Tarifa but at the last minute we needed somebody to take care of our Club Mistral windsurfing center in Dahab and he seemed perfect for the job. So finally the circle was complete and Federico was back in his beloved Egypt! From the first moment as center manager he took to the responsibilities and challenges of his new job. His ability and willingness to adapt to any situation and to the local team earned him immediate respect and he dedicated a lot of time and thought to how to improve service and in particular the atmosphere of the centre. He is always around to give a hand to the team and to the customers, to have a little chat and give some tips to the guests to improve their riding skills.

In private he is just the same … he is very chatty, always doing something, and after he discovered that he can buy good Italian pasta in Dahab he is also a happy Italian cook! There are rumors that he can easily eat one kilo of pasta in one go, but undercover tests haven’t proved that yet!
We are very happy that Federico is part of our international team as he is adding a lot of Italian flair and temperament to it. Federico, please just stay away from motorbikes, follow your dreams and stay with Club Mistral for at least another 22 years!
